My Library Home Is Green - I’m very proud of my green environment and this is why.

The library is built on a brownfield site                                                                                              

Eco roof (vegetative) for storm water management 

  Rain garden with native plants on North side of building for storm water management

Water use reduced by low flow toilets    

                Energy use reduced by low-energy lighting and motion detectors to turn lights on and off in interior rooms

  HVAC system maintains excellent interior air quality-plenum flooring allows fresh air, warmed or cooled, to circulate throughout the building

                                     Construction incorporated many recycled and recyclable products

  Carpet squares, which allow easy access to electrical, computer and heating/cooling systems throughout the building, are made from recycled materials.

                                       Main roof light colored to insulate building and prevent heat islands

All tile in restrooms made from recycled glass 

  Interiors used certified wood; paints, adhesives, and finishes made of low volatile organic compounds

  All furniture made in Michigan from sustainable products; table tops made of

linoleum, a recycled product

 

Outside lighting is directed to reduce light pollution

Energy use reduced by large curtain wall windows that capture daylight and filter UV rays in 75% of building 

  Light shelves on windows reflect daylight deeper into rooms reducing need for artificial lighting

Library adopted Green cleaning policy

          There's a constantly updated read out in the South lobby showing how much power our 30 photovoltaic (PV) panels generate.
